Discussion:
Client says no updates, server says about 150 needed

I use RIS to deploy a Windows XP SP2 to new systems and GP to deploy Office
2003, Visual Studio and a bunch of other apps. I also use WSUS 3 to deploy
the patches.

I have one computer that I just deployed where it seems to have deployed
fine and successfully downloaded and installed about 90 of 150 various
windows updates to XP, Office, Visual Studio, Visio, etc. However I can
clearly see that it did not install all the approved updates because there
is no Media Player 11, IE 8, and a few other obvious items. If I run
wuauclt.exe /detectnow and even /resetauthorization I can see in the windows
update log that it believes there are no updates needed.

Also, on the WSUS server, even though the computer did install about 90 or
so updates the reports still show that this computer needs all of the
approved updates. The report for the computer shows the correct time for
its last checking and the windows update log shows the correct server info.

Here is the log from the last time I ran wuauclt /detectnow
/resetauthorization

Based on everything you've stated, there are only two possible scenarios
that I know of that can cause this behavior:

1. The updates are not approved for the Engineering target group.

2. The binary content for those updates is not yet downloaded to the WSUS
Server.

The Engineering target group has all the updates approved. The other
computers have already been recieving them.

The WSUS server should have all the content because only a week ago some
other computers were added.

"should have" is not a valid and objective diagnostic fact. ;-)

And other computers being added would seem to have nothing to do with
content being downloaded from the Internet to the WSU SServer.

Please *confirm* that the WSUS Server has downloaded 100% of all approved
content.
