I am getting this errorwhen running the WSUS Client Diagnostics Tool,

VerifyWUServerURL<> failed with hr*0x80190190

The server cannot process the request because the syntax is not valid.

please help!

What happens if you attempt to access these URLs on this client, while
logged in as a NON-ADMIN user?

Also, can you export and post the actual registry key values from

The 0x80072f78 error is
0x80072f78 - ERROR HTTP INVALID SERVER RESPONSE
but there's insufficient information in this log to determine the cause.

I suspect, though, the cause will be revealed in the registry values you're
about to post.

Jason... could you please /export/ the actual values of the key using
regedit
or run 'REG EXPORT HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
thissystem.txt'
and post the "thissystem.txt" value in a reply to this thread
so that I can see the full set of what's actually there.

I also need ALL of the ~/AU subkey.... which is where the important stuff
for this issue is located.

I also need the /answer/ to the question --- what happens when you attempt
to access the specified URLs using Internet Explorer from the client using a
non-admin account?

thissystem.txt'
and post the "thissystem.txt" value in a reply to this thread
so that I can see the full set of what's actually there.
I also need ALL of the ~/AU subkey.... which is where the important stuff
for this issue is located.
I also need the /answer/ to the question --- what happens when you attempt
to access the specified URLs using Internet Explorer from the client using a
non-admin account?

The 0x80072f78 - ERROR HTTP INVALID SERVER RESPONSE, is an indication that
perhaps your proxy server is not properly communicating as an intermediary
between the client and the server. Perhaps the proxy is not supposed to be
in this communication stream, as I see you're bypassing the proxy for local
resources in IE.

The client should be bypassing the proxy to access the WSUS Server, but that
needs to be configured in WinHTTP, not IE.

Run 'proxycfg.exe -u' to copy the IE proxy configuration to the WinHTTP
proxy configuration, and then try the Client Diagnostic Tool again. If the
CDT successfully contacts the server, then run another detection and check
the WindowsUpdate.log.

If the CDT still fails, post the results back here again.

Also, I notice an inconsistency in the formatting of the proxy server name
for IE and WinHTTP, and from inspecting the output of other CDT results
posted here, it looks like the formatting of the IE proxy configuration is
incorrect, so you might need to fix that first, before running the
'proxycfg -u'.

Jason... could you please /export/ the actual values of the key using
regedit
or run 'REG EXPORT
HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
thissystem.txt'
and post the "thissystem.txt" value in a reply to this thread
so that I can see the full set of what's actually there.
I also need ALL of the ~/AU subkey.... which is where the important stuff
for this issue is located.
I also need the /answer/ to the question --- what happens when you attempt
to access the specified URLs using Internet Explorer from the client using a
non-admin account?

Lawrence, I ran proxycfg.exe -u and it fixed the problem, the PC is showing

The 0x80072f78 - ERROR HTTP INVALID SERVER RESPONSE, is an indication that
perhaps your proxy server is not properly communicating as an intermediary
between the client and the server. Perhaps the proxy is not supposed to be
in this communication stream, as I see you're bypassing the proxy for local
resources in IE.
The client should be bypassing the proxy to access the WSUS Server, but that
needs to be configured in WinHTTP, not IE.
Run 'proxycfg.exe -u' to copy the IE proxy configuration to the WinHTTP
proxy configuration, and then try the Client Diagnostic Tool again. If the
CDT successfully contacts the server, then run another detection and check
the WindowsUpdate.log.
If the CDT still fails, post the results back here again.
Also, I notice an inconsistency in the formatting of the proxy server name
for IE and WinHTTP, and from inspecting the output of other CDT results
posted here, it looks like the formatting of the IE proxy configuration is
incorrect, so you might need to fix that first, before running the
'proxycfg -u'.
