Can anyone help me with this? I have one server which I cannot get to
connect to our WSUS server... other servers/PC's are not a problem.
This PC is restricted from going out to the internet. It is 2003 server sp1.
I can ping the WSUS server. Any ideas?
Here is my log file..... thanks in advance for any suggestions you can send

It looks like this machine does not have the latest windows update agent
installed. This log most likely came from windows update.log and not
windowsupdate.log as shown by the version below "WU client with version
5.7.3790.1830". If the policy is set to point this machine to your WSUS
server is correct, it seems it's not self updating. You may want to
manually install the updated 5.8.0.2469 version by downloading it from
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v6/windowsupdate/redist/standalone/WindowsUpdateAgent20-x86.exe
and installing it.

Thanks for that info. I downloaded and installed the client as suggested.
When I run the Client Diag tool - at the end it returns:
"VerifyWUServerURL() failed with hr=0x80072efd
A connection withthe server could not be established."
But I can ping the server.....

It looks like this machine does not have the latest windows update agent
installed. This log most likely came from windows update.log and not
windowsupdate.log as shown by the version below "WU client with version
5.7.3790.1830". If the policy is set to point this machine to your WSUS
server is correct, it seems it's not self updating. You may want to
manually install the updated 5.8.0.2469 version by downloading it from
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v6/windowsupdate/redist/standalone/WindowsUpdateAgent20-x86.exe
and installing it.

It looks like your proxy server is blocking access to the WSUS server.
Even though you can ping the server, network traffic for WSUS
communication via client and server will be be on a port other than ICMP
uses. In your case it looks like you are using port 8530 on the server.

I'm no expert on proxy and firewall issues related to WSUS. Maybe one of
the expert like Lawrence or Torgier could jump in here.

It looks like your proxy server is blocking access to the WSUS server.
Even though you can ping the server, network traffic for WSUS
communication via client and server will be be on a port other than ICMP
uses. In your case it looks like you are using port 8530 on the server.
I'm no expert on proxy and firewall issues related to WSUS. Maybe one of
the expert like Lawrence or Torgier could jump in here.
