Discussion:
Custom update view isn't saved in WSUS console

Good morning,

WSUS 3.0 SP2 running on WS2008. I administer it from desktops running the
management console. Whenever I create a custom update view in the console,
it is only there until the console is closed and then next time I open the
console it isn't there any more.

Is the console a MMC console and if so how do I save customisations to it?
And is there any way these customisations are also accessible on other
computers that have the MMC console snapin for WSUS installed or does the
console file have to be saved to somewhere where they can all access it?

TIA

This would suggest that the WSUS (msc) file is not being properly saved when
the MMC session is closed. This could be because you do not have appropriate
write permissions on the ~\AppData folder, or because the file, itself, is
corrupted.

Locate the WSUS file:
- %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\MMC on Vista and later systems
- %userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\MMC on Win2003 and earlier
systems

Verify appropriate WRITE permissions for your account on the file and all
parent folders.

If they are correct, delete the WSUS file and re-run the WSUS Admin Console
from the Start Menu which will recreate this file in your userprofile. Then
try the modifications again.

The customizations are user specific; however, it's theoretically possible
that the WSUS (msc) file can be copied to other userprofiles and/or other
systems; however, except in cases of significant customizations, it's
probably easier to simply build the update views on an as-needed basis.
