WSUS 3.0 SP1 Clients not showing in unassigned computers

I have installed WSUS Sp1 and selected the option "Use the Update Services
Console".

No clients are showing in Unassigned Computers (or anywhere else) even after
a week.

Clients variously run XP SP2 or SP3. They have not been cloned. Servers run
Server 2003 SP2.

What am I doing wrong? I really don't want to mess around with GPO's until
I've got the simple case working.

First thing to check is whether or not the GPO settings are correct.

Next, check the file C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log file. Look for errors.
You can often find the cause of a problem by Googling "WSUS <error code>"

Post back if you need more help...

It sounds like you have set up the server but have not configured the client to
know that a WSUS server exists. This is fully documented in the Operations,
Deployment and StepbyStep guides.

Essentially the client MUST be told the name (or IP) of the server it is
expected to use. If you skip this then if just carries on chatting to the
Windows Update site. Read "Step 5" in the StepbyStep guide.
