Clients not appearing in WSUS

Hi.

I hope someone knows the answer to this. I have installed WSUS on a SUS
server for testing. Client machines don't show up on the computers page. The

This is not the entire log, but the last part that seems to contain the most
information. The client is an XP Pro SP 2 machine. The server is 2003 and is
currently running both SUS and WSUS.

I've run wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow and nothing has happened
(wuauclt.exe has run as a process in task manager, so something must have
happened).

Any ideas or suggetions would be really apprecited!

Did you install the WindowsUpdateAgent20-x86.exe on this machine using the
/force switch?

The problem is that the client is not finding your WSUS server at
http://Smithers

This is perfectly understandable. I believe you need to reset your URLs in
your policy to http://Smithers:8530 in order to faciliate a successful
communication with WSUS. The WUA is finding your /SUS/ server at
http://Smithers.

If you're "not sure", then I'll interpret that as an indication you did not
install the package.

It is possible that you, or somebody else in your organization, ran an MBSA
v2 scan on this system?

client.

And, then, also to document, or explain, why that installation "downgraded"

are anomalies that need to be explained.

I've run wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow and nothing has happened
(wuauclt.exe has run as a process in task manager, so something must have
happened).
Any ideas or suggetions would be really apprecited!

Thanks Lawrence. I really appreciate your time and help here!

I tryed a couple of things yesterday, including deleting all of the WU*.*
files in the System32 folder as per a nother newsgroup post, then running
Windows Update. That installed the Windows update client (I think), although
all of the files replaced were the same as my files. I restarted and found an
update waiting.

I noticed the log file has a number of errors in it this morning. I resumed
from Standby on a different network, then when I got mback to the office
resumed again, then renewed the IP address. Are the failures due to the IP
address not being right until the renew? There is too much info so I've cut
the log back to after a coupl e of restarts yesterday when the update
installe.

Can you access the file using Internet Explorer from a non-administrator
account on this PC?

Can you post the unedited log for 8/2/05 from powerup until the post time of
your message.

The entries for 8/1/05 look normal, except that there's no log entries
showing an actual /detection/. which I find intriguing.

There's inconsistency in what's happening on this client.

At 8:36am, it tries to post events to stats.update.microsoft.com, which is
an indication that you have missing or invalid URL configurations in your
GPO, and the WUA thinks it is functioning as an Automatic Updates client,
not a WSUS client. But the attempt fails with '2ee7' errors, which are
"Internet Name Not Resolved".

Thanks Lawrence. I really appreciate your time and help here!
I tryed a couple of things yesterday, including deleting all of the WU*.*
files in the System32 folder as per a nother newsgroup post, then running
Windows Update. That installed the Windows update client (I think), although
all of the files replaced were the same as my files. I restarted and found an
update waiting.
I noticed the log file has a number of errors in it this morning. I resumed
from Standby on a different network, then when I got mback to the office
resumed again, then renewed the IP address. Are the failures due to the IP
address not being right until the renew? There is too much info so I've cut
the log back to after a coupl e of restarts yesterday when the update
installe.

Do you mean install it again? I installed it a while back. Should it be
reinstalled after installing WSUS?
