Discussion:
Missing Registry Keys?

I've installed SUS (SUS10P1.exe) on a Win2k3 member server in a Win2k domain.
Clients are Win2k/XP workstations and Win2k/2k3 servers. I've downloaded
wuau.adm and installed it in a domain level group policy.

I think there are some registry keys missing in the gp. I have the following:
- Configure Automatic Updates
- Specify Intranet Microsoft Update Location
- Reschedule Automatic Updates Scheduled Installations
- No Auto-restart For Schedulaed Automatic Updates Installations

And that's it. There is no AU sub-key and other keys that I've seen
referenced to online. Should there be more than what I have. If so, is
there an adm file with all of these? Thanks for your help!

Update:

I did find AU sub key but still think I'm coming up short. Here's what I
have on an XP machine:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate]
"WUServer"="http://backup"
"WUStatusServer"="http://backup"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU]
"NoAutoUpdate"=dword:00000000
"AUOptions"=dword:00000003
"ScheduledInstallDay"=dword:00000000
"ScheduledInstallTime"=dword:00000003
"UseWUServer"=dword:00000001
"RescheduleWaitTime"=dword:00000005
"NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers"=dword:00000001

Thanks!

If the policy setting are "Not Configured" they will not create a
corresponding registry key.

Also, since you are installing /SUS/ and not /WSUS/, then many registry
values are not valid.

For further assistance on /SUS/ you should post to
microsoft.public.softwareupdatesvcs.

Thanks for the info.
Should I be using WSUS instead of SUS for a network of 100 workstations plus
servers? SUS looks like a light weight version of WSUS.

MS says that support for SUS will end in approximately 12 months...

SUS is the version 1.0 product.

WSUS is the version 2.0 product.

WSUS /replaces/ SUS... and as JeffG noted in the followon message... support
for SUS will disappear sometime next year -- meaning that /content/ will no
longer be available for SUS.

Yes.. for 100 workstations plus servers.. you should migrate to WSUS as fast
as humanly possible. :-)
