Hi Group!

Is it possible to limit the bandwidth for the WSUS - every time the WSUS
synchronizes the netzwork nearly crashes as the Microsoft Update Servers
have a strong internet connection!

Kind regards

It's most important to recognize that this 'bandwidth' is measured at the
=LAN= interface of the WSUS Server, and is based on the =LAN= segment the
server is connected to.

Unless you set this value below the maximum bandwidth of your Internet
connection, WSUS *can* max out your Internet pipe with download traffic.

Other hints:
[a] Approve updates at end-of-day on Friday, so downloads take place
over the weekend.
[b] Throttle BITS by time-of-day, rather than bandwidth, so that
downloads only take place during non-business hours.

Click Start, click Run, type gpedit.msc, and then click OK.
In the left pane, expand Computer Configuration, expand Administrative
Templates, expand System, expand Network and then click Background
Intelligent Transfer Service.
In the right pane there is bandwidth configuration to BITS

Late answer, but might still help some people.

Had this problem as well and solved it by restricting bandwidth at the web
server; set your maximum desired throughput in the IIS configuration and
everything should be ok.

Only downside is that distribution takes a bit longer, but even with several
thousand clients it's no biggie imo. Depending on network design and
bandwidth constraints, one might also consider setting up an extra WSUS
server for different requirements - with one server distributing updates at
full speed while another might distribute at max 2 Mbps to reduce the load
on slow WAN links (could also be done in the network infrastructure, but
adds unnecessary complexity to the network).
