Hi all,

Currently, we have one WSUS2.0 server with MSDE database (one box) for years..
I am looking for the upgrade to WSUS 3.0. the DB will be sql 2008 server.
If I do a upgade, I just want to install WSUS 3.0 on the new virtual
machine. Should I restore db from the old server? If not, what would
happen? What's the recommended way to upgrade WSUS on one server (with WSUS
and DB on one box)?

Thank you.

My best suggestion: Install the WSUS 3.0 SP2 server from scratch and forget
that the WSUS v2 server even exists. Abandon that database entirely.

This gets my vote too. Then approve only the updates that are detected as
"needed". It takes a few days to get them all approved but the content does not
bloat with unneeded updates.
